What we store

We store your email, display name, account settings, salted password hash if you use a password, sessions, posts, photos, reports, follows, bookmarks, and moderation history. Authenticator secrets are encrypted. We do not publish your email address. Your display name, approved posts, and approved photos are public.

How it is used

We use this information to run the community, prevent abuse, manage access, and send verification, recovery, security, and moderation messages. Neighborhood digests are optional and can be turned off in your account or through the unsubscribe link in each digest.

Service providers

The site uses OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare for hosting and storage. Submitted text and photos are sent to OpenAI models for safety classification. Email is delivered through WeldonPC infrastructure. Moderation does not establish that a claim is true.

Cookies

Citywatch uses essential session and sign-out cookies. There are no advertising trackers in this application. ChatGPT sign-in, when chosen, is managed by its own provider.

Retention & deletion

Expired public posts are purged after 90 days; removed posts after 30 days. Unattached photos are removed after one day. Notifications are kept for 90 days, moderation audit records for up to one year, and delivered email queue entries for 30 days. Verification and recovery tokens expire automatically. Encrypted operational backups are retained for 30 days.

You can export your information and request account deletion in your account. Deletion removes your posts from public view immediately and schedules account data to be purged within 30 days. Copies may remain in encrypted backups until their retention period ends. Security records may be retained as described above.

Share with care

Do not publish private contact information, private home addresses, or photos you do not have permission to share. Photo uploads have embedded location metadata removed. Citywatch is intended for adults 18 and older.
